Leidens Ontzet

A Dutch tradition

Leidens ontzet is an event that commemorates the liberation of Leiden during the Spanish siege and subsequent relief of the city in 1574.

During Leidens Ontzet we get together at the Clubhouse and enjoy a traditional Dutch meal called hutspot, a dish that looks like the stew found in the Spanish troops' camp. Leidens Ontzet is held around the 3rd of October and is one of our popular annual events.

In 2019 Leidens Ontzet takes place on Sunday 6 October at our club house ‘Avalon House’. Registration for this event is required as tickets are limited. Priority is given to members.
